The Mac and Cheese Incident
The world is a wild place when you’ve got a glittery pink Lamborghini and 76 cousins. In The Mac and Cheese Incident, the authors have penned symphonic odes to beauty alongsige poingant stories that grapple with animals facing extinction and a favorite musician passing away. There’s humor: “llama like to spit on the haters” (“My Favorite Animal”). There’s heart: “She is evening by the sea. / Her falling side, her gentle sides. / Her smile the coolness of the air. / Her eyes of sweetness of the skies” (“She Is Evening”). There’s “Party Time With Anxiety” and questions about the moon and stars. These neurodiverse writers approach familiar subjects each with a distinct persepctive. In one author’s words, “my brain works and looks different.” Difference is questioned and reinvented and celebrated in this book.
