The sun, like a strip of light. Watching it snow. The tree is windy. I can fly. I have to go.

– Debie Morales Campos

Snow in Texas

We can’t see into the future, but the writers of Snow in Texas have their guesses: velociraptor sightings, a unicorn takeover, and “a car in the sky” (“A Version of Back to the Future”). This book isn’t short on moments of excitement—in one story, the narrator “Woke up with fire!” (“Family Farm”). Superpowers emerge to take the world by storm: “Control the power. Control the wind” (“My Day”). The expansive stories in this collection contain a dog that throws parties, musicals, and dancing monkeys. But it’s not all fast-paced: “A sloth says / I’m really slow / I’m really trying to go a little faster” (“Sloth”). Each page offers something new, a fresh vision of the world.
