Forget Me Knots
The world might be a better place if “people would duel with Yugioh cards instead of shooting each other” (“Utopic Future That Has No Casualties”). In Forget Me Knots, family tales are interspersed with battle scenes and explorations of identity. The authors dwell in detail, describing a dollhouse made from scratch, a dog with a skin pattern like candy, and what it’s like to fight zombies and tigers with hammers. This book is full of value: “Everything I own has a meaning to me” (“Special Olympics and My Teammates”). And even if “a meteor is coming” (“Weather”), we can find beauty in listing the names of flowers, in being our own confidantes.
