THE FLOWERS ARE USED IN DIFFERENT WAYS
ONE WAY IS A WEDDING
ANOTHER IS A FUNERAL
– Sona Parker
Paper Flowers
A name can mean gold; a name can mean a river. In these ambitious pages, the writers of Paper Flowers have named feelings that “feel like a bomb” (“Wynter”) and a world with “PIZZA ROSES AND TACOS, NO CANCER” (“Utopia”). They have excavated loss and discrimination. Routines are formed and broken, and stories persist: maybe a meatball and a bacon slice become friends in a tomato sauce river. Maybe you can start a game of basketball and “play all your life, it never ends” (“Basketball Game”).
